the final act

he struggled. he held on to the brick. he paused for a bit and breathed hard. he looked below him. scattered bodies, lifeless in green uniforms lay across the ground. a sense of satisfaction filled his dirt stained face which was bleeding slightly above his left eye. small beads of perspiration formed from his forehead in this hot july sun. the sun rays were directly on him and he was blinded as he looked above to the sky. he felt a strong sense of excitement surging inside him. dressed in a rough denim pant, and what was once a white tshirt now soiled by dirt and his sweat he clutched to the belt across his shoulders. that was what protected his life on this day. but no time for the past thoughts. here he was, one step away from the moment in history. the sheer importance of the moment however did not grasp his mind. it was just a sense of exhilaration, a sense of relief, a sense of achievement. he remembered someone saying "the greatest fear i have is not of death nor of fear itself, the greatest fear is that i wont accomplish something significant in this life"

with those words still ringing in his ears, he pulled himself up with all the energy that was left in his body. as he climbed over to the roof he saw all of his town right in front of him. but finally he could call it his. he and his relatives could call it theirs. his friends could call it theirs. he still remembered the smell of the soil as he lay on the ground so many years ago with her and staring to the sky. little did they realize that freedom as a kid was a gift. they were under a illusion, under the rulers only kids imagined themselves to be free. that day as a police officer rode in front of them hitting a poor man standing on the side with his stick he resolved to himself that he wont be that man. he looked over to her, looked her in the eye and with a stealthy resolve said one day we will be free.

with a great cry from the depth of his stomach, he pulled the flag from his back. with his arms in the air and the flag fluttering in the wind he cried out "freedom, freedom at last". as the few officers running away from the scene looked back, he knew that no longer would he subjected to humiliation. his brothers who participated with him in this revolutionary fight cried in delight. they danced to the tunes only they understood. they moved to the music of freedom ringing sweetly across this entire land. the joy of love is only known when you miss it , the bliss of freedom was truly understood by them. this day in history will be remembered.
